LEXINGTON, Va. (WDBJ) - Rockbridge County could be getting a small airport in the future. The state aviation board has taken the first step in addressing the service gap in the area.

The Virginia Aviation Board is funding a feasibility study to explore the possibility of establishing a small airport in Rockbridge County. The organization that will be conducting the study said that if it’s feasible, a small airport could have major benefits for Rockbridge County.

“It’s seen as an economic development opportunity for the county. It also strengthens their ability to shorten response times for medical emergencies if you need to get a med flight helicopter in and out,” said Ann Cundy, Executive Director of the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission.
