ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - As millions of Americans travel for the Labor Day holiday, Virginia State Police are stepping up patrols to keep drivers safe. Speeding is one of the leading factors in deadly crashes, and this weekend, troopers are sending a strong reminder to slow down.

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, meaning more cars and more troopers on the roads.

“It’s Labor Day weekend, it’s going to be a big holiday,” said Trooper Tyler Crewe. “There’s going to be a lot of people out trying to enjoy the weather. Best advice I can give you is make sure you pay attention to that speed limit. There’s going to be a lot of state troopers and local law enforcement out enforcing pretty much all of the laws of Virginia.”
