LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — $184 million in cuts to AmeriCorps service programs has been averted, according to a news release issued Thursday.
The White House Office of Management and Budget agreed to release the funding that AmeriCorps plans to award to service programs across the country, according to a news release from Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford.
The decision follows budget cuts that had threatened the survival of those programs, the release said.
According to the AmeriCorps website, it is the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, providing student mentorship, disaster recovery support, assistance to older Americans, and addressing other pressing needs across the country.
