COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) — Five juveniles are facing charges after allegedly leading officers on a chase through Coventry early morning on Wednesday.

Police said an officer spotted two cars driving closely together on Tiogue Avenue without their headlights on and attempted to pull them over. Instead, both cars sped off.

One of the cars matched a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Coventry earlier, according to police.

Officers pursued both vehicles as they split off into different sections of town. Police said the cars were eventually abandoned or disabled and the occupants ran off.

With help from West Greenwich Police Department and Rhode Island State Police, five juveniles were arrested. Police later confirmed the other car was stolen, too.
