The sight brought instant relief to Brockville motorists frustrated by detours and traffic tie-ups over the past six months: the William Street overpass reopened to traffic on Friday afternoon, after shutting down in February for a major rehabilitation project.
City officials announced the reopening mid-afternoon on Friday, as motorists began using the key north-south artery again, enjoying a newly-smooth ride at least on the middle of the structure.
“Thank you for your patience during this important infrastructure rehabilitation project,” read the city announcement.
City officials added that, while the bridge is now open again, “lane closures will continue intermittently over the coming days and weeks.”
