FARGO — North Dakota State University has received a grant of nearly $4 million that will go toward a supercomputer for artificial intelligence research.

The system, to be named Bison, will be located in a room at the Research 2 building on campus.

The executive director of the Center for Computationally Assisted Science and Technology said it will not only help solve complex problems for multiple science and engineering areas at NDSU, but also benefit other institutions across the university system and tribal colleges in North Dakota.

"With all the research activities going on on campus, especially related to AI, right? I mean, this investment, as I said, is not yet for one single university. It's for the whole state and region," said Khang Hoang, executive director of CCAST.
