EUGENE, Ore. - A hospital in Gaza where a Lane County emergency physician volunteered was struck twice by Israeli Defense Force airstrikes, resulting in the death of at least 20 people, including five journalists.

Dr. Mark Brauner, who volunteered at Nasser Hospital in June, was part of a coalition of U.S. healthcare workers. He recounted his experience during a mass casualty event that treated between 450 and 500 trauma patients in one afternoon.

"Nasser hospital on June 17,2025," Dr. Brauner said. "When I was there (we) experienced probably the single mass event casualty in a civilian event hospital in modern history. We had between 450 and 500 trauma patients in one afternoon."
