PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Arizona State Rep. Lydia Hernandez and her daughter are calling out the Phoenix Union High School District, saying its claims made earlier this week that she and her daughter brought a boxcutter to Maryvale High School are “false and defamatory.”

The Democratic lawmaker, who is also the president of the Cartwright Elementary School District board, said that she visited the school on Monday to “get answers and resources” after the recent deadly stabbing involving a 16-year-old boy at the high school .
