The Detroit Lions filled out their 53-man roster on Friday afternoon, claiming safety Thomas Harper from the Las Vegas Raiders to reach the roster limit for the first time since Tuesday's cutdown deadline.

Harper went undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2024 but quickly became a contributor for the Raiders as a rookie. He made 15 appearances with five starts and had 26 tackles with an interception and two pass breakups.

Prior to Harper's signing, safety depth was indeed a significant need. The Lions only had two true safeties on the roster after cutdown day, with hybrid defensive backs Rock Ya-Sin and Avonte Maddox serving as the only depth at that position.
