WASHINGTON — The concern over kids use of AI chatbots was bipartisan among the attorneys general of the United States.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican, was among the group of 42 state A.G.s who signed Monday's letter. He claimed AI software has frequently led minors, as young as eight years old, to "sexual conversations, discussions of violence and deceptive interactions that lead to scams."

The letter was addressed to legacy tech companies who have developed AI programs or host AI apps, such as Meta, Google Apple and Microsoft, as well as software companies that have solely specialized in advancing artificial intelligence, including OpenAI, Perplexity AI and Anthropic.
