LEESBURG, Va. — Loudoun County fire and rescue officials are warning people to check the model of their e-bikes after one ignited a fire inside a home and burned a person on Wednesday.
The fire marshal’s office says crews from multiple stations responded to a report of an e-bike battery explosion in the 1200 block of Cannon Court, NE, in Leesburg shortly before 4 a.m.
When they arrived, they discovered that a resident had awoken to find their e-bike on fire in their living room, investigators say. The person carried the bike outside, suffering burns during the process.
The bike kept burning in the driveway, igniting the tires. Officials also say items inside the home caught fire.
Two people and a dog were displaced by the fire, which caused a reported $10,000 in damage.
