Before the start of their three-game weekend series in Minnesota the Padres put Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list with a non-displaced left foot fracture, an injury that's almost certain to keep him out of the rest of the regular season. Bogaerts most likely suffered the injury when he fouled a ball off his foot on Wednesday afternoon in a loss to Seattle.
According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, in this type of injury the bone is cracked but the ends of the bone stay properly aligned so there's a good chance Bogaerts can avoid surgery. The typical timeline for recovery is estimated at six to eight weeks, providing faint hope he can return for a playoff run.
Infielder Mason McCoy, a defensive specialist, was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to fill the roster spot
