BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man charged with murder in a crash on Union Avenue that killed a 16-year-old girl made his first court appearance Friday.

Jaime Oceguera used a wheelchair at his arraignment, where not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf to charges of murder, vehicular manslaughter, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon -- the vehicle he drove -- and driving on the wrong side of the road causing death.

Oceguera, 35, was ordered held without bail and a preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 11.

On the evening of Aug. 10, a Jeep Patriot driven by Oceguera was heading west on Panorama Drive when it entered the northbound lane of Union Avenue, crashing into a Hyundai Elantra, police said.

Speeding and drug intoxication were factors in the crash, police said.
