A court has levied a $90,000 fine against an Alberta steel company after one of its workers was injured in an industrial accident three years ago.
The Alberta government on Friday announced the fine against Steele Tech Fabrication over the March 17, 2022, incident at its fabrication plant near Barrhead.
According to a news release, the worker was injured while helping move a steel I-beam out of the shop with a telehandler forklift, which has a a pair of forks mounted on a long, telescoping boom.
The beam fell off the forks and struck the worker, who was walking behind to guide the load. The victim — who was not identified — suffered undisclosed “serious” injuries, the news release said.
Steele Tech pleaded guilty to a single charge under the Occupational Health and Safety Act Tuesday,
