Why I took the photos

I was producing an article about the Black Hills and Rapid City.

How I took the photos

The photographs were taken with my Nikon F analog film camera, TRI-X b/w film and assorted lenses.

What I like about the photos

They capture the essence of the pioneers and their creations of this unique place in America.

And one more thing

Mount Rushmore, called the Shrine of Democracy, depicts 60-feet-tall granite sculpted heads of four United States presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Its photograph is on South Dakota’s license plate.

The carved mountain symbolizes equality and justice for all. Justice Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965) said that “in a democracy the office of citizen is the highest office in the land.”
