With temperatures climbing ahead of Labor Day weekend, forecasters Friday advised beachgoers to be cautious of strong rip currents and powerful surf along Los Angeles County beaches.

Some inland areas could reach up to 110 degrees over the holiday weekend, while coastal highs are expected in the upper 70s to low 80s, according to the National Weather Service.

Thousands of residents are expected to flock to the coast to escape the heat.

On Friday, south-facing beaches in Malibu and elsewhere in Los Angeles County were forecast to see waves of 2 to 4 feet, with sets up to 5 feet, along with a moderate rip current risk.

Water temperatures were reported between 68 and 73 degrees, with low tide at 7:12 a.m.
