LIVONIA, Mich. — It might look like something you'd see in a James Bond movie (or perhaps one of the gadgets with which Mater is equipped in Cars 2), but "the Grappler" is real, and it's in Michigan.
Officers from the Livonia Police Department were assisting Michigan State Police in the pursuit of an allegedly stolen vehicle on Thursday, according to a social media post from the department .
The chase took Livonia police to the area of westbound I-96 and Farmington Road, where police were able to stop the fleeing vehicle with a device known as "the Grappler." It's a safety tool, according to Livonia police, that deploys a high-strength net from the police vehicle on to another vehicle. The Grappler net lands around the vehicle's rear tire and axle, "stopping it within seconds."
