MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — The City of Milton has been named to receive a $16.9 million grant to build a new wastewater treatment plant.
The grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is long awaited as the project was put on hold in December to give the city more time to pick a new location.
The proposed site sits on 270 acres in East Milton, farther away from the Blackwater River than the current plant, that also wouldn't interfere with the wellfield protection zone, an area that supplies residents' drinking water.
"We were there previously, council made the decision, which was totally in their right to do, to move locations, and we've kind of done a reset, and now we're getting back to that shovel-ready status," Milton City Manager Ed Spears said.
