COLUMBIA — Columbia City Council will considering suspending transportation fares again for the 2026 fiscal year.
Go COMO buses have been operating fare free since the COVID-19 pandemic impacted transportation in 2020.
If the city brings back fares, then Go COMO will have to purchase new fare boxes to take payments, as the current ones are outdated.
"GoCOMO is primarily funded by federal grants at this time, as well as state grants, contributions from the (University of Missouri), and the transportation sales tax, to a degree.," Columbia Public Works Department spokesperson John Ogan said. "Those federal grants can be unreliable."
In 2019, Go COMO fares brought in about $250,000, and Columbia Paratransit brought in $400,000.
The prices for the 2019 fiscal year were $1.50 for full fare
