For fighters, it all hangs in the balance.
The day before a bout, you’ve got to make weight. Fighters on Saturday’s Summer Slugfest card did just that on Friday afternoon. Pros and amateurs, all dialed in.
“Feels good,” says Victoria fighter Bobby Gill. “I had no problem making weight at 168.5.”
There’s an allowance for one pound of wiggle room for weight classes. While fighters are now cleared for combat, pre-fight prep shifts to a simpler cycle of rest, refuelling, and razor-sharp focus.
But focus is hard for the fighter making history Saturday night. Stan Peterec feels he’s been put through the ringer before setting foot in the ring.
