Anne B. remembers the moment she got hooked.

It was June 29, 1997, and she was sitting beside her teenage niece in the 200 section of Madison Square Garden, where more than 17,000 other fans had gathered to take in history.

The WNBA made its New York debut, with the Liberty beating the Mercury.

But Anne was captivated by No. 11 — Teresa Weatherspoon — and her handles, speed and tenacity.
