WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling Park’s defense held strong when tested in the second half to defeat Parkersburg South, 23-7 at Wheeling Island Stadium. Park made a pair of defensive stands after turnovers deep in their own territory in the third and fourth quarters, holding South to just one score in an impressive effort.
“We had a bunch of big stops tonight. This was a good football game. We won ugly. There’s a bunch of plays we would like to have back. I said that it is really important to be able to do that — to be able to not play your best and still win, especially early in the season. We’ll continue to grow. But I thought it was a hard-fought contest,” said Wheeling Park head coach Chris Daugherty.
