MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District reports positive news following a significant wastewater spill . Recent water quality tests show no cause for concern after 6 million gallons of wastewater overflowed over about 10 days.
The District began testing for E. coli shortly after discovering the overflow on August 25. Tests expanded to areas like Gilligan’s Island in the Yahara River and Lake Waubesa. Results showed E. coli levels were well below the threshold for beach closures.
“We appreciate the collaboration with Public Health and the WDNR to ensure we were taking appropriate actions,” said Eric Dundee, executive director of the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District. He emphasized the importance of protecting public health and the environment.
