BUFFALO, N.Y. — Friday marked a deadline set by Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon, who said he would consider taking legal action if City Comptroller Barbara Miller-Williams did not move forward with bond financing for capital projects.
“The controller has stated she's up for a legal fight. I think that if it goes that route, it might be a one rounder. Quite frankly,” Scanlon said.
Scanlon has argued that the city cannot move forward with long-planned improvement projects unless the comptroller agrees to borrow money through bonds.
“Nothing set in stone yet, but taking legal action is certainly not set outside the realm of possibility,” Scanlon said.
Miller-Williams has pushed back in recent weeks, warning that the plan could put Buffalo’s finances at risk.
