PEMBROKE — A lack of healthy depth plagued the Purnell Swett football team Friday as the Rams took a 41-0 home loss against nonconference foe New Hanover.
“It was a lack of depth, we had a couple guys not playing,” Rams coach Josh Deese said. “We asked Malachi (Jacobs) to step in at quarterback, he’s normally a linebacker; he did as well as he could. Hopefully next week we get a few guys back and everything will look better.”
New Hanover (1-1) led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, but held a 35-0 advantage by halftime.
“We played them pretty tough at the beginning of the game, and then you could tell, we kind of got behind the sticks,” Deese said. “It’s tough when you’re trying to (go against a strong team), and as fast as they are, it was tough. That’s a really good New Hanover team
