A man has been charged after allegedly causing a crash that killed a South Carolina State Trooper in August.

Trooper First Class Dennis D. Ricks was hit on Aug. 10, around 2 a.m., on Interstate 26 eastbound near mile marker 165 in Orangeburg County. Latest Forecast

Authorities say Ricks was walking back to his patrol vehicle when he was hit by a large box truck driven by Anthony Aydlette, 45.

Deputies confirmed that Ricks' emergency blue lights were activated during the stop.

Ricks died on Aug. 13.

A graduate of South Carolina Highway Patrol Class 123 in September 2023, Ricks had served in Troop 7 (Orangeburg, Calhoun) since then.
