TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - It’s been 20 years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall, killing more than 1,000 people across five states.

Portable Practical Educational Preparation’s efforts were recognized as one of the largest civilian national relief efforts in the history of the United States.

“It does make us proud that we were a team,” said PPEP CEO and founder John Arnold.

When Katrina hit, Arnold jumped into action with his team and organized 77 moving trucks and semis to drive over 24 hours to Clarksdale, Mississippi.

What they found when they got there was pure destruction.

“But what stayed in my mind was the people’s homes,” Arnold said. “They would come back, and they couldn’t find the neighborhood, they couldn’t find their house.”
