MADISON, Wis. (WOWT) - No. 12 Creighton volleyball dropped its Opening Spike Classic matchup Friday night in Madison, Wisconsin, falling in straight sets to No. 5 Texas, 25-21, 25-19, 26-24.
The match served as a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, when the Bluejays knocked off the Longhorns in four sets.
This time, Texas (1-0) avenged that loss in its season opener behind 12 kills and 15 digs from newcomer Torey Stafford, a First Team All-American last season at Pittsburgh.
Creighton (0-2) was led by sixth-year senior Kiara Reinhardt, who returned to her home state with a team-high nine kills on .529 hitting. Senior setter Annalea Maeder tallied 29 assists, distributing the offense evenly as six Bluejays finished with at least five kills.
