100 Years Ago, 1925: Because of a lack of funds, the Christian Home for the Homeless Man located at 617 Penn St. will not reopen Oct. 1, William E. Phelps, head of the institution announced this morning.

75 Years Ago, 1950: The Eddystone Print Works, Eddystone, resumed operations this morning after a strike of 250 workers that began July 27. Full production is expected to be achieved by Friday. The return to work was on the basis of a compromise settlement revolving around wages. An 11 cents-an-hour “across the board” increase in wages was agreed to by the company. When the workers walked out of the plant, the company stood pat on a 10-cent wage offer. Negotiators for Local 13028 of District 50, United Mine Workers, were demanding a 15 cents an hour boost.
