TAMPA, Fla. — Clayton County Fire Capt. Jason Harmsen was recently named the 2025 National Firefighter of the Year at the American Legion’s 106th National Convention.
“Captain Harmsen’s decades of dedicated service and unwavering commitment to giving back have earned him this prestigious recognition,” a statement from Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services read. “This marks the first time a Clayton County firefighter has received this honor on a national level — a truly historic moment for his family and our fire family.”
On Wednesday, Aug. 27, American Legion National Commander James LaCoursiere Jr. presented the plaques to Harmsen and 2025 National Law Enforcement of the Year Sgt. Shane Maloley, of the Beatrice, Neb., Police Department.
