ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A man accused in the death of South Carolina State Trooper Dennis Ricks is facing a new charge and remains behind bars following an emotional bond hearing Friday.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced that 45-year-old Anthony Aydlette has been charged with reckless homicide after authorities say he struck Trooper Ricks with a box truck on Aug. 10 in Orangeburg County.

Hours after the upgraded charge was announced, Aydlette appeared in court for a bond hearing, where South Carolina Highway Patrol officers, family members, and attorneys were present.

Bond was set at $225,000, payable in cash or by surety. According to Franklin McGuire, the Ricks family’s civil attorney, Aydlette had not been able to post bond on a previous, less severe charge, driving under suspension
