At least four indigenous families of the Arawak ethnic group have confirmed they will vote on May 25 in the elections to elect Venezuela’s new governors.

The Guyanese government recently threatened to imprison any Venezuelan who managed to vote in the elections.

Regarding this warning, Tane Tanae consulted several residents via WhatsApp about whether they would vote, and most responded affirmatively.

«We have lived here for many years, so threats, no matter where they come from, don’t matter to us. We Arawak indigenous people are owners of these lands and our own decisions,» declared a leader from a large area of El Essequibo. Anuncios Visitas: 1508
