U.S. transportation officials withdrew $47.3 million in federal funding for an offshore wind project in Baltimore County.

In a statement released Friday, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy withdrew or terminated a total of $679 million in funding for 12 offshore wind projects across the country.

The secretary said his department’s realigned focus is to rebuild the shipbuilding capacity; unleash more reliable, traditional forms of energy; and use natural resources for energy production.

“Wasteful wind projects are using resources that could otherwise go towards revitalizing America’s maritime industry,” Duffy said in a statement. “We are prioritizing real infrastructure improvements over fantasy wind projects that cost much and offer little.”
