Resident Rebecca Dawson said she is running for city council to limit property tax burdens on homeowners while encouraging more flexibility for residents to develop land in the city limits.

Dawson, 46, is running in Ward 2, which stretches from the Westside Neighborhood to the Missoula Montana Airport and new communities west of Reserve Street.

She told the Missoulian in an interview that property taxes must go down to keep people in their homes. She said while more wealthy homeowners can afford a tax increase, people on fixed incomes cannot.

"It's the difference between being safe in their home and possibly looking to have to move, bringing in roommates, all the hard choices that people have to make when their expenses go up," Dawson said.
