ROSS COUNTY, Ohio (Aug. 29, 2025) – A Ross County Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper remains in critical condition after being seriously injured in a head-on crash last week.

The crash happened when a pickup truck reportedly crossed into the wrong lane at a high rate of speed, colliding head-on with the trooper’s patrol vehicle. Both occupants of the truck were killed. The trooper, identified as Gunner Combs , survived and was flown to a Columbus hospital, where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Combs, who was on duty at the time, faces a long road to recovery. His wife, is currently balancing the care of their one-year-old son, Walker, while also preparing for the couple’s second child. Friends say she will be unable to work during this time as she travels back and forth
