BOSTON — The Pirates are selecting the contract of utility man Cam Devanney from Triple-A Indianapolis, a source informed the Post-Gazette. Devanney will join the Pirates ahead of Saturday’s game against the Red Sox. If he appears, he will make his major league debut.

As a corresponding move, Ronny Simon is expected to be placed on the injured list. Simon, an outfielder called up before Friday’s game in Boston when Jack Suwinski was placed on the 10-day IL, injured his left shoulder with a headfirst slide into home plate on Friday night. He was removed from the game. Manager Don Kelly didn’t have a postgame update on Simon’s health.

Devanney, 28, is batting .266 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in Triple-A this year. He was acquired from the Royals for Adam Frazier in mid-July. He’s primarily
