UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — James Franklin said this week that having 54 new players makes things “more difficult early in the season.” But it’s hard to agree after Penn State’s staggering 46-11 win against Nevada in its season opener, when this new squad looked and played as if this team was all they knew.

The Nittany Lions’ dynamic running back duo got a strong start to the year, as Nick Singleton was the first to cross into the end zone with a goal-line rush and earned his second touchdown of the day in the third quarter. Kaytron Allen tallied his first touchdown of the season, as well, with a 12-yard run of his own at the beginning of the second quarter.
