Erik Alvarez, of Emporia, was sentenced to probation after entering an Alford plea for one count of indecent solicitation of a child, a sex act with a child older than 14 but younger than 16.

On Friday, Alvarez was sentenced to two years of probation with an underlying sentence of 19 months in prison. He was given credit for one day served in jail. He will be required to follow all probation requirements, which include completing a sex offender program, registering as a sex offender, and not having contact with any children under the age of 18.

Alvarez was originally charged with rape of a child less than 14 years of age on April 22, 2024. The offense occurred on Jan. 12, 2021. Alvarez was released on a $50,000 bond pending trial.
