Protesters with signs filled the corner of Highway 50 and Industrial Road Monday morning for the Workers Over Billionaires demonstration.
The Emporia protest is one of just over 1,000 taking place across the United States over Labor Day and surrounding days, organized by labor unions and community groups like May Day Strong.
The protest highlighted concerns regarding workers' rights, cuts to social welfare programs, and the influence of billionaires in the current political landscape.
“Today in government, there are a lot of billionaires, but America would be nothing without the workers,” said Kelli Johnsen, one of the organizers of the Emporia demonstration.
