Why are flags at half-staff in South Carolina?

McMaster ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff until Sunday, Aug. 31. In an Aug. 27 news release, McMaster said President Donald Trump issued a proclamation and directive to display the flag of the United States at half-staff "as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 27, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota," in reference to an Aug. 27 school shooting that left at least two students dead.
