CLEMSON — Clemson football fans were ready to erupt during arguably the biggest home game in years, but its offense and quarterback Cade Klubnik let them down.
No. 9 LSU upset No. 6 Clemson , winning 17-10 on Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium in the battle of the Tigers. It was Clemson's first back-to-back home losses since 2008 and fourth straight loss to an SEC opponent .
New defensive coordinator Tom Allen had Clemson's defense humming, forcing two turnovers and containing LSU's potent offense. When LSU (1-0) finally broke through to take its first lead with less than 13 minutes left in the game, Clemson's defense kept its offense around, but the unit did not hold up its end.
"We didn't play anywhere near what we're capable of being offensively," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said.
