KEIZER, Ore. — The Oregon man who was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents while fighting a wildfire in Washington state had been waiting for legal status for years and had lived in the U.S. since he was 4 years old, his attorneys told KGW on Friday.

According to Jordan Cunnings, legal director at Innovation Law Lab, which is representing the firefighter, the man is currently being held in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing facility in Tacoma. Cunnings said that they had been unable to locate him for over 48 hours.
