Sir Keir Starmer ’s summer holiday in Scotland earlier this month hardly got off to the best start after it was interrupted by an emergency summit with EU leaders, hosted by Donald Trump on the other side of the Atlantic.

With parliamentary recess ending on Monday, a presumably not-so-rested Starmer is facing an equally disruptive September – and severe post-holiday blues.

From a potential probe into the tax affairs of his housing secretary, Angela Rayner , to a series of potential legal battles over hotels housing asylum seekers , Starmer will surely want to gain control of some of the political narrative, which this summer has largely been dictated by Nigel Farage.
