A nationwide recall has been issued for about 2.9 million of Air Vent’s electric motors used in gable- and roof-mounted attic fans. The recall was issued due to a potential fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said . The motors’ safety cutoff may fail, creating a risk of short circuit and fire while in use.
The recall comes after the company received 159 reports of burning or fire related to the motors, though no injuries have been reported. The motors were sold nationwide at various stores and wholesalers, including ABC Supply, Lowe’s and Beacon, both in-store and online, priced between $74 and $92, according to CPSC.
The recall, announced Thursday, affects motors sold from August 2003 through December 2013, with model numbers DOW-136-0-34-XIN; DOW-136-0-26-
