LEXINGTON, Ky. —
The University of Kentucky Wildcats kicked off their football season Saturday at Kroger Field in Lexington, securing a 24-16 win over the University of Toledo.
Saturday's win comes as the Wildcats try to bounce back from a disappointing season last year, in which they finished 4-8 (1-7 SEC), with some bad losses throughout the season.
Kentucky came into the 2025 season with many new faces on the roster, most notably, a new quarterback, with Incarnate Word graduate transfer Zach Calzada taking the helm.
In the first quarter, Calzada managed to score the Wildcats' first touchdown of the season.
Dante Dowdell, a junior transfer from Nebraska, also had an impressive touchdown with about nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
