KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Tennessee opens the 2025 season with a statement win over Syracuse, 45-26, at the Aflac Kickoff Game inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium Saturday afternoon.

New Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar shined in his debut with the Vols. Aguilar went 16-for-28 with 247 passing yards and two touchdowns.

This is the second time Tennessee has played inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Vols opened the 2017 season against Georgia Tech, one of the first games played in the stadium. Tennessee were the victors taking down the Yellow Jackets 42-41 in a double overtime thriller.

Josh Heupel is now 5-0 in season openers at Tennessee after the win over Syracuse.
