Aldi's hourly paid store colleagues are set for a larger than anticipated pay rise from next week. Aldi had previously announced in July that it would be boosting the pay for store assistants from £12.75 an hour to £13.00 from 1 September.

However, they've now added a further increase to £13.02 an hour to maintain their leading position in the sector. The rate rises to £13.95 with length of service.

This represents the second pay increase for Aldi store colleagues this year, reinforcing Aldi's status as the highest-paying supermarket in the UK.

Lidl also recently upped its hourly pay for staff from £12.75 to £13.

The change was announced by Lidl on Friday, 15 August, with staff working at the supermarket seeing the pay rise take effect in September, reports the Liverpool Echo .
