Brisbane-based Virgin Australia has noted that the airline's maintenance costs remain high, as the delays of major aircraft orders expected from American plane maker Boeing . This has seen the Australian airline extend leases and maintain older aircraft operating in the airline's fleet, as delays continue to hamper the airline's bottom line.

Australia's second largest airline, only behind the Qantas Group ( Qantas and low-cost carrier Jetstar ), has continued to rejuvenate itself after it quickly retreated operations following voluntary liquidation during the onset of the COVID-19 Pandemic, saw itself retire all of its widebody aircraft, and even temporarily saw some of its narrowbody aircraft take on a new chapter, working for now grounded carrier, Rex.
