The Afro Women and Youth Foundation says it has distributed more than 250 backpacks filled with school supplies to newcomer children, youth and families in need across Greater Sudbury.

For the second year, AWYF also made referrals for newcomer families to the United Way’s Ready for School shopping program.

To further support families, AWYF’s community centre is keeping its free resource shelves open. Community members and newcomer families can still access free clothing — all ages, including winter items — children’s storybooks and gently used toys while supplies last.
