A fire at the GenAlta Recycling Inc. plant (9301 34 St.) broke out on Saturday morning in Strathcona County producing huge billows of smoke seen from kilometres away in Edmonton.

Strathcona Emergency Services responded to the industrial blaze at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. No injuries were reported in the fire, but Strathcona County said crews are still on the scene where they will stay for most of the day, and potentially into the evening.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services were asked to assist with the fire and dispatched two crews to the scene shortly after 10 a.m.

Meanwhile, Edmonton police shut 34 Street between the Sherwood Park Freeway and Baseline Road, prompting drivers to find alternate routes around the area.
